Site Changes

I’ll just cut to the chase – Ride into Glory will no longer regularly publish articles. The site is going to stay up and we’ll still be posting long form features and guides from time to time, but we’ll go from about 100 articles a year to 3 or 4. The front page of the site will get a small redesign to highlight the site’s most important guides and articles. More details on what we’re doing and why can be found in the rest of the article.

What we will stop publishing:

  • Standalone reviews (all types)
  • Short interviews
  • Track and album premieres

Articles you can expect moving forward:

How the publishing schedule will change:

  • No more 2 articles weekly
  • The goal is for around 3 or 4 big articles a year

Additional information:

  • I am fully committed to keeping the site up indefinitely
  • I will keep the promise of never running a single ad on the site – the site’s maintenance and server costs are entirely paid for by kind donations via patreon
  • The discord chatroom will still remain active

Why We’re Doing this

There’s nothing crazy here and I hate to say it, but it’s simply come down to the fact that I don’t have the time and energy to keep RiG going in the same way that it has been for the last 3 years. I got engaged earlier this year, I’ll be getting married next year, and I’m going to start a family soon. I am starting a new job next month. I am fortunate enough to have a great, but very stressful career and as I progress, I only expect the stress and responsibility to increase. So it’s with a heavy heart that I realize now is the time for me to dial back RiG.

Three years, 300 articles, and 24 unique contributors. I never expected RiG to get to where it got and this is all really bittersweet for me. I fully expected to shout into the void for a couple of months and close up shop, but instead I got the support of so many folks like you all. I had many awesome people join me along for the ride and contribute. I’ve met incredible people and musicians through the site and I had the chance to spread the love for my favorite type of music. We’re not journalists, linguists, or authors by trade – at the end of the day we’re just a group of passionate metalheads who want to share the music they love. I can’t thank you all enough for reading and supporting RiG throughout the years.

I’ve gotten many, many emails and messages from people thanking us for helping them find bands and scenes and how they’ve gone out to buy a ton of music as a result. Each of these messages may seem innocuous, but I really can’t say how amazing and happy every single one of them made me feel. That’s what it was always about for me at the end of the day – spreading the love for heavy metal.

THANX for all the excellent work you (and your writers) put into this page here, I read and loved (almost) all articles, features and guides!! Being a family father myself I know exactly what lies in front of you…..but keep on pounding, be the best husband and father you can be…..and one day, when your kid(s) will be old enough and won’t need you as much as the years before, you will come back. Stronger, better, mightier!!! This maybe sounds like a Joey DeMaio stage rant, but it’s totally true, you’ll experience it yourself. Good luck and once again: THANX!!!

Sad, but your effort will remain!
Thanks a lot, especially for the guides and primers. I really bought a lot of new music, because of your uspm guide. Glad to hear there will be more stuff like that.
I completly understand your reasons. Family needs a lot of time, for the best reason.
Wish you all the best.
Greetings from Rostock, Baltic Coast, Germany.

Nothing but respect for the work you’ve put into Ride Into Glory, and happy you’re keeping it up as an invaluable resource to metal fans everywhere. I know how it is running a blog, its a lot of work and to keep content coming out regularly (even if only an article or two every two months can be difficult when you have other things going on in life/responsibilities. I totally get it. Hope you’re doing well in all those other things, and thanks for the dedication to the music!

I, too, have discovered many a band through RIG. Thanks for all of your hard work up! I know from personal experience that passion projects like this one can go through cycles of activity and relative inactivity. You may not think that you’ll be able to do much in the near future (and of course it’s family first), but a few years can make a big difference. And of course this could be an opportunity for your contributors to step up. In any case, I’ll keep checking in for updates as long as the site exists. Cheers!
